I woke up this morning, the first day of a real autumn month, with a cold. Both the kids are sick, which makes this really no surprise, just more of a disappointment. Why?
Because we are meeting Colin Meloy tomorrow night; he and his wife have published a children’s book and are giving the keynote speech at the Decatur Book Festival. I don’t want to sneeze on him.
Because we are just starting to get into a routine with the gym – we’ve both lost six pounds, and I can run for a little longer than before. Luckily, when I’m sick, I exist solely on coffee, tea, oatmeal, soup, and toast. And Gilmore Girls.
…I like to wander around websites, looking at houses and art projects and other random things. It makes me feel hopeful and inspired. Here are some samples of awesome things I’ve found.
I’m a sucker for lanterns, or tiny lights, or anything on that order. I shudder to think what my living space at grad school will look like. Also, I like flowers. And pictures. And quotes written in interesting handwriting.
That is all. What kind of things do you enjoy, reader?
We’ve just returned from a fun night out with Miss Connie – dinner, driving around looking for stupid people (of which we found around 3 or 4), and the movie this blog post is titled after, Crazy Stupid Love. Some thoughts.
- The Majestic Diner rocks. If you have never been there, go immediately. Don’t worry, it’s open 24 hours a day. So go. Go on. No, don’t stop to read this. Take your laptop along (there’s Wi-Fi!) and go.
- The Midtown Art Cinema also rocks. They show lots of independent films, serve beer and wine, and let you bring in coffee. What better place is there, I ask? None.
- Awesome movie. So funny, with a great twist towards the end. I’m normally not surprised, ever, in movies; the industry makes it so easy to predict what’s going to happen. However, I literally grabbed Ry’s knee and said oh my god! when the neat part happened. It’s always a nice surprise.
- Ryan Gosling is hot. Quite simply. H-O-T. It seems I have not lost my teenage ability to have crushes on movie stars. He’s a beautiful specimen of a man.
There you go, loyal readers, my Saturday night. Ryan Gosling always makes for a good night, whether it be Monday or Friday or Doomsday. How did you spend your night?
