Homeruns and Hard Work

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not good at phone calls.  I’m not discriminatory – this dislike at telephones extends from family to friends to work to cold calling.  And forget the kind of anxiety I feel when a boy feels the need to have a phone date.  There may or may not be scripts scattered on my desktop.  You can make fun of me.  I can take it!

So, when it comes to finding myself some new clients, email is the way I go.  I can present myself in the best light when I can write my thoughts down, instead of calling and feeling the pressure to present myself before they hang up.  I mean, yikes.

The point of all this is that I would like to celebrate tonight.  I’ve been emailing countless business people and realtors for 2 weeks straight, and it’s finally starting to pay off.  I have 5 meetings lined up this week and, in all honesty, I’m slightly astounded that this is all working.

Dream big, y’all.  Work hard.  Kick ass.  Take names.  You can have anything you want.  Living proof right here.

Rain and Cold and Sleet, Oh My!

Lately, it seems that the days get colder as they progress.  I didn’t need a jacket this morning, but come 1pm when I hopped into the car to go pick up a sign from one of our sold properties, the wind was biting and the rain drops were cold.

Lesson learned.  Probably not, actually, but the sentiment is there.

As a (newish) freelance writer, I am still deciding on how to structure my days.  Obviously, I’m in the office helping Feroza in the morning.  To avoid a headache from too much computer time, I break up the rest of the day between projects, laundry, dishes, the pets, and furthering my own training.  Nothing like a dog staring at you while you’re trying to work to get you up off your ass and outside.

I also have a new fascination with Anthony Bourdain.  I have found him On Demand and many of my evenings are taken up with his sharp word choice, adventurous palate, and exotic destinations.  I’ve found him to be excellent company after a long day or while I’m doing a mindless data entry project.  I’ve also found him to be detrimental to my diet, as I’m now craving massive amounts of sea food after a trip he took to Haiti.

In short, these short mid-winter days are spent with the tv, laptop, and music.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is It

I can finally announce what’s been happening behind the scenes for awhile now.

Ahem.

As of Monday, May 26, I will be accepting a job as an assistant editor at a local publishing house.  I will also be launching full-tilt into my freelance writing.

I honestly could not be more excited.

Just imagine…I graduated from college 5 years ago today.  I’ve spent all that time looking, searching, clawing my way around the job market that is Atlanta, only coming up empty handed, time and again.  But here…it’s 2014.  It’s finally happening.  The life I’ve always wanted is standing before me, and it’s mine for the taking.  I don’t know if it’s a result of hard work or luck; perhaps a smidgeon of both.  All I know is that I’m ready.  I’m at peace.  This is where I’m meant to be, and I’m going to embrace it with both arms.

Let’s go, people.  This is it.
